The Jacksonville Main Public Library will celebrate its Lewis Ansbacher Map Collection during the Mapping Our Past event.
Florida Gulf Coast University Archives and Special Collections has taken on the challenge of digitizing over 10,000 maps that highlight decades of ecological and social change in Southwest Florida. This presentation will explore their ongoing efforts to make the collection more accessible and relevant to today’s researchers, collaborations with environmental scientists and faculty at The Walter School and some of the interesting items that have surfaced during the project. Uncharted Territory will provide a behind-the-scenes look into how historic maps and modern technology can combine to put Southwest Florida cartography back on the map!
