If your child is into science, technology, engineering and math (or would they like to be), this is the time for them to shine. Read or talk through a STEM book with us and then we’ll do a STEM-based activity together.
Attention, Junior Scientists! This STEM-based program for K-2 features a book and science activities that encourage deep thinking, inquiry, and fun. This week’s exploration is called Rainbow Racer, based on the theme Dream BIG! We will use cardboard and other household materials to create a rolling car that moves. This exploration is based on the book The Princess and the Pit Stop by Tom Angleberger.
Each week we will use a variety of materials that you may have at home to explore a scientific concept. This week’s needed materials are:
Large flat piece of cardboard
Empty toilet paper tube
Plastic bottle tops (4) (same size)
Plastic drinking straw
Toothpicks (2)
Scissors
Push pin/thumb tack (1)
Colored makers
Blank pieces of paper
Glue (we will be demonstrating with a hot glue gun. We recommend parent supervision if you choose this option.)
After our program, find the book(s) to read again HERE. Need assistance? Contact us at 904-255-BOOK.
