If your child is into science, technology, engineering and math (or would they like to be), this is the time for them to shine. Read or talk through a STEM book with us and then we’ll do a STEM-based activity together.
Attention, Junior Scientists! This STEM-based program for K-2 features a book and science activities that encourage deep thinking, inquiry, and fun. This week’s exploration is Creative Contraptions. We will learn about and create simple machines that perform a task. This program is based on the book called Rube Goldberg's Simple Normal Humdrum School Day by Jennifer George.
Each week we will use a variety of materials that you may have at home to explore a scientific concept. This week’s needed materials are:
· A clear open space (floor or tabletop)
· Random objects (as many or as few as you would like – the more, the better)
· Tape, yarn, or string
· Ruler
· Cardboard paper towel roll or tissue roll
· Marble or small ball
· Cup
· Something with wheels - such as a toy car
· Dominoes or blocks (if possible)
After our program, find the book(s) for today’s program to read again in our catalog HERE to pickup at a branch/download. Need assistance? Contact us at 904-255-BOOK.
